13. Turkey Board
This hand-built “Turkey Mark XXII” board started out as a donated 1950’s Collins tube-type console. In the mid-1970's KBOO staff and volunteers gutted it, replacing the electronics with state of the art API audio amps and converting it to stereo operation. It was installed in KBOO's SW Yamhill Street studio in 1975. This 9-channel board features four microphone “pots” (faders), two turntable pots and three switchable pots for other equipment and studios. The board was designed by KBOO’s second engineer Gray Haertig and built by engineer Scott Wills. It was not uncommon at this time for radio engineers to build their own equipment.
